There is now a header on White River's site saying there was a mixup at the distributer's and the wrong magazines were sent out to subscribers. They are now in the process of sending the correct copies out. Larry Smith

Slightly off-topic here, but has anyone rec'd the lated copy of RMC? I haven't, but today I got a copy of Railfan and Railroad--and I don't subscribe to it. There is nothing on White River Productions website saying that RMC has been discontinued (in fact, it shows the latest copy) but, I am wondering.... Steve Kay

You could cut n fold some paper and have a very nice chute. Origami paper is cheap, thin, and smooth... Very useful for all sorts of sheet metal.
Alternately, very thin brass sheet can be cut with an Xacto knife and folded. Stephan

ATSF Bx-35
Andy Carlson
I have had a classic "insert foot into mouth" moment years ago with this board gap issue. I was talking about my experience making HO scale drawings for SS box cars. I wanted to get the correct board height dimensions, so I would count the boards from lower side sill to "top" sill, simple division and I got the average board dimension (this works with all boards being roughly equal-sometimes the first board may be thinner, perhaps to makeup for an uneven difference). This was done so the car body side would have the correct number of boards visible. I told my new friend that almost ALWAYS I had to jump around on my counts from section-to-section (left-to right) as the board edges many times could not be ascertained from a straight top-to-bottom look. I compared this tight fitting circumstance with one of the cars I made patterns for, a PS WP 50' SS autocar. I explained this to this gentleman at Naperville. Almost as if on cue, after I finished my resin car, MDC Roundhouse's version of this same car was released. I said "look at those gross gaps, big enough to stick an HO full deck of cards into". I realized the foot into mouth moment when he said " I made the tooling for this MDC car" He did tell me that he was specifically instructed to make oversized gaps by his MDC boss, who also felt that SS cars must be immediately visible! This gentleman toolmaker later became famous for his non-compromised Tahoe Model works trucks, our own Brian Leppert! -Andy Carlson Ojai CA

Anyway I had posted some prototype photos found in the files under Wood Sided Freight Car Debate here: https://realstmfc.groups.io/g/main/files/Wood%20Sided%20Freight%20Car%20Debate Andy, I agree with you. Some gaps/grooves measure out to where I believe the prototype car would be shopped or rejected by the customer because one good rain storm and the contents would soaked, and it seems gaps are more commonly found than oversized grooves are. Jim Dick Larry, the comment on the NP car. While researching the NP Mechanical files along with the others, it seemed (yes I may have a bias) in the reading of these they kept the home fleet of cars in a better than industry average. I have read some internal letters where the shop forces comment that foreign road cars passing through on RIP tracks are found in condition that home road cars would have been dealt with well prior. Wood floors quite beat up, where floor and interior side sheathing meet in need of maintenance and so on.
