That is great news Eric. I am sure this is a somewhat tedious project but one that will be greatly appreciated

If I recall, Jim’s daughter helped him put the site together, Jim was not the techie behind the website. If it is not available it is mostly likely because the domain host has not been paid or renewed. Jim may not be aware. Give him some time to be notified and rectify the problem.

Eric,

Thanks for pursuing this.  I know many of us use this web site frequently as a reference and not having it would leave a big void.

Me too, and I was on it late last week.

I bid on a lot of Sunshine kits, so this is my go-to site to see if any particular kit is worth it.

I know the site was developed and run by Jim Hayes, but I don't have anything beyond that.

Re: IC boxcar mini-kit

Wow, that's not a Mini-Kit anymore, that's a "jack the car body up, take the trucks out from underneath and then lower a new car body on the trucks!".  I have that kit in queue after the rabbit hole I went down updating the Red Caboose Northern Pacific 40' wood reefers. Still working on those, pretty much the same thing, replacing everything including the trucks! Nothing original left but the now useless instructions.  I could have built 6 resin kits in the time I farted around with these Red Caboose cars (not an exaggeration).
More power to George.  I know that feeling of "well that's not right", and off goes another part of the original kit.

What the gnrhs site doesn't mention is that those are"logos", but all weren't on the sides of freight cars. Also, the date (1936) shown for the introduction of the side facing goat herald is not correct for freight cars (1941).
Staffan Ehnbom is the GN expert I always look to for such help. He's on the list, maybe will pipe in.
Since we have ruled out the 72' and the 34" with the "Great Northern Railway" wording and in Black/White, maybe Staffan knows.

Hi Hudson,

An interesting array.  It’s too bad they don’t have dates for each of of them.  That would be a big help to the GN uninitiated, like me.

Hi Todd, given that the photo i have was purchased from one of our valuable venders, I am reluctant to post online as doing so could undermine their business. Hope you understand. the photos R.J. posted do a good job explaining the various GN monogram motifs I am referring to.

Re: Looking for GN Monogram—Side Facing Goat: Great Northern Railway

Thank you R.J. I just measured the decals I have:

Westerfield is about 46" scale inches or .6205 actual inches.

Speedwitch is about 49" scale inches or .6465 actual inches.

This Microscale set has three sizes: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MD&Product_Code=87-1388&Category_Code=GN

The middle size may be what I want. If someone here has this set , perhaps they could measure the middle size?
