So sorry to hear that. I never met Greg personally, but had communicated with him many  times within our mutual groups. He was one of the first to get me interested in the Shake-N-Take group. He was always there to answer any questions I had. He supplied me with the necessary castings to augment my projects. As a matter of fact I am working on one of the 2009 projects as we speak, the UP S-40-10 stock car which he graciously provided me with the end castings. Now I have something to honor him with. The project actually started as a joint effort between Jim Hayes and myself, but now it has a stronger meaning.

It kind of hit me today, hearing this bad news.

Greg you will be sorely missed in all of our hearts and modeling circles.
May God bless you on your journey to Train Heaven.

MP is stenciled on the end of the car and I can see a bit of Missouri Pacific on the car side.

Hi List Members,

In the image below, I can see two boxcars. I’m trying to make out the owning road for the one closest to the camers, but I’m not successful so far. Perhaps others on the list will look at this and will know right away...

I see 5-5-5 ends, possibly Murphy style, or perhaps inverse Murphy (is that a term?). It also looks to have two doors on the side I that can see, making it an automobile boxcar. Does that ring a bell for anyone?

Use the “Download” button to get a higher-resolution image, this will help.

Very sad indeed. But if you were aware of Greg's medical history you knew he'd have a very hard time if he contracted the virus. When this all started a medical commentator said that when COVID-19 has run its course, everyone will know someone who dies from it. Not know OF someone - actually KNOW someone. It's disheartening that Greg's death checks that box for so many of us. I will remember his friendship, encouragement and willingness to share and teach. He was possessed of a great physical presence, and I'll always picture him running the Prototype Rails door prize raffle, commanding the room and demanding our attention with his big, booming voice. A true loss which diminishes us all.

I counted Greg among my friends.  Even though we was 2000 miles away we did a little business together and enjoyed the hobby that brought us together.  Sad, sad day, Mont Switzer

I'm really sorry to hear this. Greg worked so hard on Prototype Rails in Cocoa Beach, really made Shake 'n' Take happen, and inspired many to explore what could be done with the standard kits we all start with. And he was a great guy personally. My deepest condolences to Sandy and the family. A huge loss to us all.

Sadly, I have just learned that Greg Martin passed away today from complications of COVID-19. He was one of the great ones, and taught so many of us so much.

Hi List Members,

There is a nice scene showing a bulk oil dealership in 1924. Very model-genic.

Oh yes, there is also a steam era freight car for us to enjoy as well – tank car PARX 848

Claus,

What a great image!  It almost makes me want to model 1924...

It looks like a GATC type 17 radial course tank car. And those tank trucks!
