Decals are easy. May have to “cut and paste” to get an appropriate number and other data.

The kit will allow you to (appropriately) omit the dome ladder and platform on the right side.

Finding good decals that will readily do this car may prove challenging.  Good luck!

Re: K4 Decals

John,
I just used them on an F&C 70 ton L&NE cement hopper for a friend in NJ

They went on well, snuggled down well.  One thing I noticed is the ink is elastic once on the car.   So if you want to adjust the decal, be sure it is floating on water.

I recommend them

The car is clearly stenciled: “Bad order  Do not load” and is a G27.  Guess somebody was functionally illiterate?

Hi List Members,

The photo linked below shows us the United Gas Improvement Company gas facility.

There is a nice trio of twin hoppers present, all appear to be lettered with UGI road numbers.

The hopper car in the center looks to me to be identical in design to the PRR class GLa hopper.

We also get a somewhat unclear glimpse of another identical UGI owned PRR GLa design hopper lurking on the right side of this image...

Enjoy!

Ordered the kit. No great savings but I just like to roll (build) my own....

Now I need 1945-1952 period deals for UTLX.

I've bought them but not used them yet.  When I asked the same question the answers I received was that the white is a bit opaque.

Re: ATSF Mineral Brown

Nelson Moyer

It may be apocryphal, but I was told that early CB&Q paint shop instructions for mixing mineral red (the Q called it Indian Red) was by the number of handfuls of the red pigment they mined in Wyoming per volume of base paint being mixed. Not precise by any means. At lease the pigment color was relatively consistent, having been mined at one location. The geological name of the crushed rock used escapes me.

Good point, Roger. I recall the retired PFE Chief Mechanical Officer telling me about the PFE representatives at manufacturing plants, who had to decide, on the basis of color drift panels in their possession, if a paint being applied by a builder was "close enough" to the color drift. They had to use their judgement because there were always variations from any paint company.

Note several undec cars are in stock per the website.
