The Shippers car was owned by the CB&Q. Which in my mind would mean you could add the Q to your list of Ottawa destined cars. Those cars had the same latching system as the Santa Fe and would require the new roof detail pack available from RCW. The Burlington Route Historical Society had some decal sets with the "Ottawa return" lettering and "Wedron". Burlington Bulletin #20 covers all the covered hoppers of the CB&Q and would be a useful addition to your resources. It is currently OOP. Please let me know if you need some info from the pages.

Over time I have asked a fair number of questions about covered hoppers in the steam era.  The Google photos link shows the results of some work to make the Intermountain 1958 cuft covered hopper more accurate based on the Railway Prototype Cyclopedia articles and my October 1954 modeling period.  See:

NKP 99750:  This used a Kadee Ajax brake wheel and Tahoe #7 trucks (not 70T, but the spring package looks right to me.)  Chalk markings and new reweigh/repack decals finished it off.

SHPX 25581:  This used a Kadee Ajax brake wheel and Tahoe #7 trucks.  The grab irons were painted black.  I swagged at the reweigh/repack being by the Q at KC since it was in their lease and used FCR as the color to paint out the old.  There is no definitive answer to this point about when they were returned to SHPX from Q lease.

The gondolas next to the beet unloading track might have limestone in them. Limestone was used the production of sugar from beets.

Just FYI the EBAX tetraethyl lead tank cars were still in revenue service into the 1990's. I photographed one,
a 3,000 gallon size car, in Tacoma in 1992.

EBAX 3197, the car I shot, is not in my 1958 ORER. That said, I just took a look at the EBAX roster there. While there are a number of 3,000 gallon cars, most are 6,000. Most are ICC 105A300W TPI cars, though a few of the 3K cars are ICC105A300, which AIUI means they are riveted. They have the lowest numbers, suggesting they are the oldest cars in the fleet. Not surprisingly, the majority of the 831 car fleet are restricted to carrying "Motor Fuel Anti-Knock Compound", that is tetraethyllead. There are a few cars listed as carrying metalic sodium, ethyl chloride, Muriatic Acid, and chlorine gas, which I presume are constituent chemicals used to make anti-knock compounds, or are by-products of the process being shipped to other industries. By the way, there was also an Ethyl Corporation of Canada which rostered 42 cars under the ECCX mark. All are indicated as for tetraethyllead. They are all 3K or 6K cars classed as ICC 105A300W TPI.

I did not know about DuPont making this stuff, but I remember that I saw some of their cars on the WP as well. Dupont had a large chemical plant somewhere west of Pittsburg, and I have some shots of one of their locomotives. This might have been where their cars in the WP trains were headed. Of  course, DuPont made a lot of other nasty stuff as well as tetraethyllead. I have some negatives somewhere, and I will probably get to them in my next big scan campaign later this year when I start work on my California stuff from the 1960s and 1970s.

I'm also very interested in this particular style of wooden hopper car & would love to learn about others wherever they might have been.

The Colorado Midland (my particular interest) had a fleet of similar cars on an obscure branch hauling coal from the mine to coke ovens which eventually fed the big CF&I steel mill in Pueblo, Colo.

C&O MW Tenders

Attached are four photos of C&O MW tenders I found at Gordonsville, Virginia circa 1985. Note that all four are different types, but probably all were assigned as water or fuel cars to MW trains. They were on their way to scrap, and it's a shame none were saved for a museum somewhere.

These are the last of the C&O MW cars I will post here. I have a few Southern cars to share soon, including some ex-CG boxcars.

Very nice cars, each with a subtly different character.  Ottawa IL is legendary for it's sand.  These should make a a useful addition to your fleet serving the sand quarry.

A 4+6 panel 10'0" IH riveted side automobile box car with Youngstown auto loading end door. With all of the various panel widths, and with alternating inside rivet rows this would be a challenge. Ends, roof and MDC 50' WP/MP doors are a help.  Built in 1941

Anyone have photos of (similar) the three cars in the middle -- the L&N hopper and those on either side?  Even better, any builder diagrams or modeling diagrams?

This is Birmingham, Alabama.  The blast furnaces in the right background are still there.

The NG and Short Line Gazette had a three part article on NG tank cars beginning  Jul/Aug and Sept/Oct 1978. The third part Nov-Dec 1980 was on Conoco tank cars.
The paint on Conoco cars was silver with black reporting marks and d data and dark green large Conoco. By late 1930s all painted black with white lettering. No mention of red cars.
I hope this is of interest and adds information.
