It's not a big file (106 kB). You could try sending it out as an attachment to this group as there seems to be interest based on this thread. And thanks again for your efforts. I think the new tabulation is very helpful. -- Dave Parker Swall Meadows, CA

Re: Decals for scale locations and light weights
Yeah, one of the drawbacks of the Champ sheets is that the style of the letters and numbers does not match some of the newer, finer, decal efforts. But it is way better than nothing. I have thought about custom printing reweigh dates just for my era of modeling.

Dave, I attempted to post it to the Real STMFC files but couldn't; I believe I did forward it to the moderators and requested they post it; if for some reason my memory is incorrect I'd be glad to forward it to the appropriate moderator for posting to this group's files. Jim Brewer

The reweigh date on the 94631 photo is 1937. I model 1939, so figured I was safe. Speaking of that photo, here it is along with my version.
I would like to be able to credit the photographer, anyone know who it is and/or what collection it is in? -- ------------------- RJ Dial Mendocino, CA

Earlier this year, Jim Brewer spend quite a bit of time updating this spreadsheet, garnering many corrections and additions from multiple sources. There is a May draft in the files section of this group, but it is the July revision that you would want. That version has been posted to both the Resin Freight Car Builders and and Plastic Model Freight Car Builders groups. It is a significant improvement over the older version that has been kicking around for years (thanks Jim!) -- Dave Parker Swall Meadows, CA

Re: Decals for scale locations and light weights
I have them and I've used them, but a Microscale sized sheet with hundreds of dates from the 1940's to ~1965 (when the stencil practice mostly ended) is what I really need. For example Ted Culotta's beautiful SP box car decal sheets have tons of small data... but the dates in the mid to late 1950's are very few

Re: Decals for scale locations and light weights
Rob Schoenberg's website, http://prr.railfan.net/, has a complete list of PRR scale locations with stencil codes. However, his list is from 1923, so there were changes (plus and minus) over the years. I think there is another more recent list on someone else's PRR website, but I can't remember which one (maybe Jerry Britton's?).

Re: Decals for scale locations and light weights
I have used the spreadsheet (posted by Jim Brewer) as a reference many times and I can't recall any errors - Most of the time the problem is finding decals to match the symbols.

Re: Decals for scale locations and light weights
Champ decals did this. They subdivided the railroads by region, and then provided reweigh codes for each railroad. They also provided a separate sheet of reweigh dates.

Check the group Files section for the Reweigh Symbol spreadsheet. It's crowdsourced and could probably use a bit of QA, but it's been there for years.

Re: Scheduled brake test that results in a brake test date stenciled on the brake cylinder
Dave Parker
As I understand it (which is not well), the brake-service interval from ~1934 forward depended on whether you are talking about AB or K brakes. See Tony's blog which utilizes Guy Wilbur as a reference:
http://modelingthesp.blogspot.com/search?q=brake+service A car built in 1949 almost certainly had ABs, but it's worth knowing the whole story ca. 1950. -- Dave Parker Swall Meadows, CA

Re: Cotton Belt dbl door boxcar
Frank I missed out on many of the Sunshine rebuild kits, although I got that particular car - the 10-8 car. I missed the SSW 10-2 rebuild with 7/3/7 ends (52.10)

Garth;
It doesn’t detract from the fact that it is a rare shot of an uncommon road.
The P2K kit was one of the first of theirs I bought, and talk about garish! I weathered the cr@p out of it to tone it down and look more like a “steel road” car ought to.
And thanks again for sharing!

Elden,
Sadly, I wasn't my own photo. I wasn't even born when it was taken. I found the photo in the cheepo jumble box at Hammon the Archivist's shop in Old Sacramento. Getting the tones balanced and removing the scratches were a project taking most of an evening.

RJ,
Great work! How long did the truss rod stay in service? Reefer + Truss rods is a win win in my book! I know how long projects like that can take. I volunteered to upgrade and custom paint some Rock Island E8s. It is taking a lifetime and I won't even get to run them! Thanks for sharing them! Scott McDonald

Re: Cotton Belt dbl door boxcar
If you look at the price of Sunshine kits on eBay, especially the less common ones this should sell pretty well. I also think there is a big demand for 40 ft DD cars. They seem to go for $70 to $90 a piece on eBay.
