Re: eBay Follies
Brian,
Exactly! How the heck could the crates be placed that way? you couldn't get the 2nd one in if the 1st one was halfway across the door! Of course, my lovely wife did come up with a possible explanation - the crates could have been built in place. All well and
good, but then how the heck do you get them out?????

Crates too large to be placed that way? Assuming they fit thru the door, one should be opposite the opening.
Thanks!

Re: eBay Follies
I sold a bunch at the last NMRA meet in our area in the silent auction, with compatible couplers and metal wheels. I priced them at $1 apiece thinking someone new in the hobby or a kit could get a start. One of the used equipment dealers came through put the min bid down and got most of them as no one else bid. I didn’t make much, but they were gone.

Found 7 from recent builds. Additional ones from years past are still packed away in the basement.

Re: eBay Follies
Ben You are familiar with the game of roulette? Well, sale prices on Ebay for us amateurs follow that pattern. Mostly, you lose a little... and then every once in a while you hit it BIG. :-D

Jon Miller obituary
Tom Madden
Jon's daughter, Stephanie, has sent this link to Jon's obituary:
https://hayward.chapelofthechimes.com/obituaries/Jon-Miller-7/#!/Obituary It's fairly simple and focuses on Jon's railroad interests. For those who didn't know Jon (who stuck to west coast RPM events for the most part), he was a skilled craftsman and did the patterns for the Westerfield Santa Fe Bx-11/12/13 boxcar kits. He may also have done the Bx-3/6 patterns as well, but I can't find my instruction sheet for that kit to verify. Too many losses.... Tom Madden

Re: eBay Follies
A decade or so ago, I divested my built blue boxes for $5-$10/car. Most were stock, but with NMRA recommended weight plus Kadee couplers and wheels. The $10 cars were ones I had painted and decaled.

Look at the Rock Island boxcar - those rippled sides would be right up Pierre @ Yarmouth's alley... I don't think I've seen a prototype shot with such clear ripples, actually, not at a distance anyway.

Re: L&N Woodrack -- 4
Nice work Bob and good choice of interesting prototype.
Seaboard must have been snooping in the L&N shops - here are a couple cars in S scale based on pictures from a pulpwood loading guide SAL published. They refined the design a bit by curving the rails up to form the bulkheads. Apologies for the poor pix attached - display cases work fine for display not pix. Chris Rooney

Re: Photo: N&W Boxcar 47500 (Class B-7)
James Brewer
The N&W Class B-7 and B-7A were rebuilt from Class BS boxcars. The B-7 was a 10' 0" IH with Chicago Cleveland Radial Roof, while the B-7A was a 10' 6" IH with Murphy panel roof. A lot of the cars in both classes eventually found their way to MofW service. B-7 B-7A IMHO these rebuilt boxcars would make an excellent "mini-kit" or kit in resin. The ends are particularly neat. Ah yes, I well recall keeping a stash of all kinds of Blue Box car kits as kitbash fodder. Most ended up being given away. Even marking them at 50 cents didn't sell them at most meets. Even the cars I had weathered and given Kadee couplers would only sell for a few bucks. Maybe I needed to have tried something like a Greenburg show.Tony Thompson

Sorry to hear about Jim. Some years ago, when his tremor got bad, he gave me 3 Sunshine PFE cars, partly or fully built, in “exchange” (his word) for my sending him some minor PFE info. Very generous and typical of Jim. His excellent Sunshine data collection will live on.
