Re: NJI&I to Wabash at Pine - Part 2
Andy Laurent
Cabts/Cabinets are likely shipments of sewing machine cabinets from Singer in South Bend (the original builder of the NJI&I). They made these until shuttering the plant in 1955 due to fading supply of local hardwoods.

Video Clip: Icing Reefers
Video Clip: Icing Reefers Video courtesy of Paul Wilfong: Available until Apr 17, 2021. Only fair quality. It’s from the DVD, “Railway Journeys, The Vanishing Age of Steam”, Disk Two. Notice the dropping of whole ice blocks into the bunker. Maybe practical for moving the blocks over the series of bridges but very hard on the reefer bunker. Bob Chaparro Hemet, CA

So there were plenty of exceptions -- but the majority of moves DID comply. Tony Thompson

Re: [Non-DoD Source] [RealSTMFC] NJI&I to Wabash at Pine - Part 2
Gatwood, Elden J SAD
Gary;
PRR 475100 is a class F30A flat. This was the largest class of PRR flats of interest in this timeframe. They were the cast steel flats produced by GSI, during the depression. They roamed EVERYWHERE.
The easiest HO model is the one done by Bowser, but I think there is going to be an even better model coming😊

Here is another installment of "Daily Interchange Report of Cars" from the NJI&I to the Wabash at Pine in 1953. The following list is dated 06May53. It is cars which were left between 11P and midnight for pick up by Westbound Train 89, due at Pine around 9:30A on 07May. All cars originated at South Bend. I am showing Initials, Number, Destination, Contents.

Jacob Damron
Jeff:
Ryan, Kevin Leddy, and myself can all be 'blamed' for this. We were discussing RPM's back in 2019 and one of us said 'we wish some of these were closer' and then the next comment was 'why not here?' And, here we are! The response so far has been very good and supportive and we're really excited about the potential of this. Hopefully we'll see you in June. Jacob Damron Ft Worth, TX

Jacob,
Good to see the web site up and glad to hear of a positive reception. I can remember tossing around the idea with Ryan Harris on more than one occasion over the past several years. Glad others have the "bandwidth" to get this off the ground. One tremendous benefit to tout is D/FW is readily accessible by plane from just about anywhere. Hoping to attend, -Jeff Ford Sanger, Texas

"InterMountain kits build up into excellent models and these are no exception. One aspect not readily apparent is how to install the supports on the roof for the icing ramps." (caption on the inset photograph at bottom right)
Supports on the roof for the icing ramps is an interesting feature, something that could be modeled fairly easily, and make the cars distinctive. But in the photograph, it does no appear that any of the cars have the roof supports on them. ray hutchison
