Mike;
The X29B all had the simple diagonal panel roof with no overhang. They also had the original X29 crossbearer arrangement, and revised AB brake arrangement shown on the attached.
Do you need brake equipment?

I was reading the two part series on the X29B from the 11-12/92 issues of Mainline Modeler. There are a couple of discrepancies between the two articles. In the first Greg Martin went the extra mile to model the car with a Murphy roof while
the plans in Martin Lofton's follow up show diagonal panel. I would think that given the 1948-50 build period that the roof changed halfway through, do we know the numbers? Second, Greg Martin's model was built with four heavy crossbearers, while the plans
show just two (the two that Greg installed at the edges of the door weren't there). Which is correct?

The fact that it has CAPY, LD LMT, and LT WT stencils dates it to at least 1925, if not a few years later.

I believe that CRP (Central Railroad of Pennsylvania) did not exist as a
corporate entity until the 1930s, and the caption sez the coal dealer was
"destroyed by the fire of 1947", so we have some brackets for the
date.

Gatwood, Elden J SAD
Guys;
Early on, Greg himself was confused about roof types on different classes. We had a series of discussions and photo swaps and such, until we had hashed out most of the details.
You all know the story now. The answer is X29B had only a simple diagonal panel roof; X29D had the overhanging diagonal panel roof.
If you want additional details, I will dig that data back up.

Hello Tim,
I have more than 20 Sunshine PFE reefer kits of most of their different car types, and I always thought they have been very well researched and are accurate. Which of their PFE kits is not correct, and to what degree? Possible to correct it?
(And do you have a date of that nice color photo?)
Many thanks and greetings

Hi Mike--Are you sure about Greg Martin's car having a Murphy panel roof? Here is a photo of his car.
http://prr.railfan.net/freight/modeling/freightmodelphotos.html?photo=21_19.JPG&fr=clX29 There has been no evidence that any PRR X29b's had anything other than a diagonal panel roof. Two crossbearers under the doors is correct. The PRRT&HS e-magazine The Keystone Modeler back in August 2006 had an article about a simple Branchline shell/Red Caboose underframe kitbash. Steam Era Freight Car fleet development
greg kennelly
To assist in the tracking the development of a specific freight car fleet, would anyone be able to provide a scanned copy of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway entry from the April 1947 ORER, please? I have a number of scanned copies covering different periods from 1917 to 1954 and am hoping to determine the approximate time frame for certain cars arriving on the railway. In some cases, there were differences from one issue to the next while in other cases, there was no change for several issues. From 1926 - 1952, the railway did not list dimensions of individual cars, and provided only a "recapitulation of car equipment".
Thanks for any assistance. Greg Kennelly

Re: PFE Reefer in NYC Express Train
The PFE cars were built by ACF (200) and GA (100). There are a number of differences between them and the 'generic' plastic models although the plastic foobies probably would be acceptable to most of the buyers - Just as Rapido sells all kinds of foobie passenger cars now and they seem to sell like hotcakes. The PFE reefers were imported in HO brass, twice. One by Metro models and the others (original and rebuilt) by Challenger.
