OK, got it.  I think there's a summary of the dates of adoption of those paint schemes on line, but what I was more interested in is whether there was an effort to repaint as many cars as possible, or if there was minimal repainting for other than, for instance, wreck repairs, during that late 50s period.

I have photo evidence of how the maintenance of freight cars went, for cars that were more at home in the midwest, but Pennsy cars were less common here so I didn't see that many or know of many that were photographed in Kansas.  I have a decent shot of PRR 605415, which I think is an X29L, on the MP in 1970.  Not quite sharp enough, or maybe my scan wasn't a high enough pixel count, to read the shop data.

The details came directly from James Lane's original work in the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society’s “Railroad History, No. 128” published Spring 1973. This has been considered as a primary source for many years on this discussion list and predecessor lists.

EBay, in my opinion, is trying to make money on the float.  You were requested to send your bank info so they would deposit the money to your bank in 2 days minus the selling fees.  I think it's a mistake and have been avoiding them since I got the email requesting I re-register with my bank account info.

I used to get an email saying the car sold with a link to the buyer. This time I got nothing. Had to search to see that the car sold and to whom. It's been a week and I haven't received the payment, so I haven't sent the model.

From my research, it looks to me that a majority of X26C and X29B were repainted into Shadow Key by the late fifties, beginning with the introduction of that scheme in 1954.  A few cars lingered on in Circle Key.

 

The first group of X29D that had earlier IDE were built in 1952, and had Circle Key as built, so some of these lingered.  The later group of X29D were built in 1955 so had Shadow Key lettering as rebuilt.

 

No Plain Key until 1960.

My pleasure. One of my uncles flew into Goose Bay, Labrador, and got a tour of a Liberty Ship there. The OTC tools were still there in the 70’s.

I just finished a kitbash of an Intermountain AAR 1937 modified box car with their PS1 ends and roof to make a riveted PS1. I thought I’d use Kadee ladders to get the straight stile style used on the ends of the 48 blt cars. They turned out to be a pain. I didn’t drill holes for their pegs, just cut them off and acced them to the sides/ends. I noticed one had skewed again from handling. If I attempt to use them again I’ll drill a few holes. I had no issues with their bracket  grabs. Again I snipped off two of the mounting pegs and glued them into the holes already in the car sides. Another battle I fought was with the hand brake/retainer valve combo. Took me awhile to realize the part was for the AAR car and therefore the pegs wouldn’t fit in the predrilled holes in the PS1 ends...In hindsight I wish I’d used the Kadee parts...I did add a bit of styrene for the trust plate on the upper left of the sides and use a Kadee running board. I had to make the end bracket grab, I used one end of a bracket grab on the right and a piece of wire bent in an L attached to it and into a hole on the left. Painted with Tamiya Gray primer and Tru-color CNW freight car color, Speedwitch decals. I do have a complaint about that set. There’s no PS builders stencil, or new bearing pack info, both show on builders photos from RPCyc 1. Had to scrounge them for saved scraps. Lastly I airbrushed on Dullcote and went over the roof with a Dullcote brown tint mix. Modeling 48 – 50 makes the car new or nearly new.

Painting these CNW PS1 is one where guys go with their gut. It appeared to me that ‘maybe’ all the other series had black car cement ends and roofs. I do have a color photo of this series all bcr, a repaint? I’ve actually climbed up and looks at the roofs on these cars. It’s possible they were not painted, just the seam caps and rivet lines around the  perimeter were tarred and painted color color?
