ADMIN: Covid
Aley, Jeff A
Hi Folks,
I think it is reasonable (and responsible) that Brian let us know about his Covid (since he was at a major RPM event). And I won’t be unhappy if I see well-wishes show up here on the list (though we prefer them to be sent to Brian directly. But all other messages, medical advice, etc., should be sent to Brian OFF LIST.
Thanks for your cooperation!
And Brian, I do hope you recover soon w/ no lasting effects.
Regards,
-Jeff Aley Deputy Moderator, RealSTMFC

yep... but I didn't mention Vit D. BTW mage doses long term can mess with your other metals, so be sure to inform you doc on everything you are taking. Even the "paprika" or whatever your neighbor is giving you. -J

Thanks. By coincidence, my nephrologist told me to lay off the Vit D, since it was messing with my calcium levels.
Thanks!

Still encourage you to get the rtPCR test to confirm. I'm sure you are in touch (by phone) with your primary, so don't consider this medical advice, but for non rx, as about Zinc and vit B3. Zn lozenges are a cheap and somewhat effective way to keep your oral cavity ZN+ saturated, rendering ingested or emitted virons less efficient to attach. Lot of nutter stuff out there with crappy data, but zn does helps at the margin. Take that from an ol' viral vector bioengineer. For treatment advice, obviously your doctor. But tech questions? drop me a note. Viruses are kinda my thing.

I have most of that. No diarrhea, no loss of smell or taste.
Thanks!

be well. advise you not to go out but rather have tests (and take out) come to you (or in no contact car pick up). If you share a living space, advise use of quality masks at home (non vented N95 or k95) and separation. Absolutely sucks. You might think everyone is already infected, but still viral load is key and you don't want to add insult to injury.
If confirmed positive via rtPCR, you may wish to inform others early symptoms are dry persistent non productive cough, generalize achy muscle pain and fatigue. Diarrhea in 10-15% - those who pick up via oral route. Loss of smell (which in some is more noticeable as taste disturbance) is far more indicative of infection than fever - which is actually rather uncommon and seems associated with a possible coinfection with another virus

Re: Covid
The CDC says a positive antigen test is indication of a current, active, infection. So I’ll be staying home for a while.
Thanks!
From: BRIAN PAUL EHNI <bpehni@...>
Out of an abundance of caution, I must disclose that starting last Sunday, I began having symptoms: dry cough, sneezing, sore throat. I started self quarantine Monday. According to what I see online, these are indications I may have picked up a COVID reinfection (I was fully vaccinated last May).
My antigen test results were positive, but this may be a reflection of having had the vaccine, not a new infection. I am going to try and get the viral test for a new infection.
CDC: None of the authorized and recommended COVID-19 vaccines cause you to test positive on viral tests, which are used to see if you have a current infection. If your body develops an immune response to vaccination, which is the goal, you may test positive on some antibody tests. Antibody tests indicate you had a previous infection and that you may have some level of protection against the virus.
So far, my symptoms have bee mild, as noted above. Temperature this morning was 96ºF.
So, if you shook hands with me, etc., at the St Louis RPM, please keep an eye out for any symptoms you may exhibit, and take appropriate steps. I am self quarantining and wearing a mask when I have to go out.
Thanks!

Re: [Non-DoD Source] Re: [RealSTMFC] Equipco Brake Wheels
Gatwood, Elden J SAD
To add to what Ben said:
PRR was very fond of Equipco brakes for their X31A “round roof: box cars as here:
I think Rapido will get this right on their upcoming X31A’s. 67xxx series, thru early 68xxx series, plus later, late 77xxx series.
There were a few G24 and G26 gons so equipped.
Additionally, Equipco’s were also found on some X31D, X32B, and X32D, plus some X37, X37A and X38 box cars.

Dennis, I agree that there seems to be a shared design here, but perhaps the lineage runs the other way. If my memory serves, all of the steel 50' Pfaudler cars were built postwar. The reefer in question and the similar (phase 2?) near copies built a couple years later were prewar, 1930-40 I think.Jack, Something piqued my memory, but I can't find a citation, that there was a prewar batch of steel bodied Pfaudler cars, IIRC 40' cars, that had the same roof and formed steel side plate, but a more conventional underframe with structural steel side sills, to which the side sheets were riveted in the same fashion as the X29 and ARA variant. I suspect the use of the same pressing for a side sill of the high insulated reefers saved a lot of weight, partially making up for the increased weight of the deeper car posts, and also made their attachment easier. I'm wondering if that text on the bottom of the sign my have been specific to that facility. Was that a company-owned site, or owned by a separate concern?

To address the question as written, I did a number of online searches and could not find any photo of a bulk tank at a local dealer that would indicate what would typically under the logo, much less a Flying A operation.
