IC 2019 RPM Mini-Kit
Nelson Moyer
I’m filling in time waiting on paint to dry by finishing the IC 16000 series mini-kit from Chicagoland RPM 2019. This car was originally in the 176000-176999 series, but the series was renumbered in 1941 to 16000-169975. I’m ready to install the brake staff, and I have a question about the brake staff foot (or whatever it’s called). All of the builds posted online show the usual U-bracket and chain, but the IC engineering drawings show a geared brake housing similar to the Jemco Power Plus. I don’t have a photo showing the B end sill, so I don’t know if the geared housing was actually used, or if it was original equipment that was removed when AB brakes were installed in 1945. I would scratchbuild the geared housing if I have proof that it was in use in the post-war era.
I attached a photo of the geared brake in question, and though it’s on a different series car, it resembles the geared housing in the engineering drawing. The engineering drawing is attached for comparison, as well as he Jemco geared brake.
I don’t want to rely on the car diagram sheet, because it doesn’t have the 3/5 Dreadnaught ends, so that drawing may have other errors as well.
Comments and B end photos appreciated.

From what I understand, it was never produced as Prototype Junction couldn't crowdsource sufficient funds.
I still hope that the PM and CGW SS autocars they were going to produce will be created in some form as they were both present in significant numbers. -Phil

I have been told that agents typically used whatever abbreviation on waybills they thought was needed, so consistency was not observed. On the SP, the reweigh location code for Tucumcari was “T” but I would guess an agent would write something short like “TUC.” Remember this is a designation of a junction. Tucson is not a junction with the Rock Island, so I can’t see confusion by using that. Then that part of the waybill would read “RI-TUC-SP,” which I think is unambiguous. I was also told that when an agent had to write a junction not familiar to him, he might well spell it out, whereas someone else who wrote that junction all the time would have an abbreviation. But abbreviations were all over the map, so to speak. The example I was given was Council Bluffs, abbreviated variously from “CO BL” to “CBL” to “CB."

Congratulations and best wishes, Sam. You will certainly be missed in the modeling community, because you have spoken up for Kadee very effectively over the years. I hope Kadee finds someone to take up at least some of your duties, and if I had my druthers, someone to take up ALL of them.

Codes used on Rock Island waybills
Please excuse the cross posting.
I was asked, today, what code would be used for Tucumcari, New Mexico on waybills routing cars Rock Island to SP and vice versa through Tucumcari? I might guess TUC, but that risks confusion with Tucson, perhaps.
Any advice or other learned information.
The RI employee timetable telegraph code for Tucumcari is XN, but that is not likely used on waybills.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Glue for resin kits
Chuck I’ve been using Loctite Super Glue gel for building the main parts (ends, sides and roof) for my latest 4-5 builds. It doesn’t come apart like traditional ACC if the parts are bumped. I still use the thin or medium ACC to attach the detail parts however. I found it through Amazon. I also like using Canopy Glue for the roofs on resin kits as it allows me to move the roof around until I get it even on the sides and ends. Any glue showing can be removed with a damp Q-tip. I have built many resin kits and always use ACC/superglue but have a bottle of debonder handy.

Glue for resin kits
Chuck Soule
This is a slight step away from the current thread about more glue questions, so I thought I would keep the threads separate.
The instructions for a Westerfield kit I just bought at a swap meet recommends ACC, but comments on the other thread suggest it might not necessarily be the best because it can be brittle. What are your thoughts - ACC or something else. Looking at the kit parts, they are a gray resin, so are different from the greenish resin of some Westerfield kits I built quite a few years ago.
