Thanks for the remarks; I got this kit on the afternoon of May 2nd and finished it last night (almost a Clark build).

Mrs D is out of town so had no interruptions 😈.

Claus, you are looking at ORER listings.  We've been talking about the CBCs.

I put my Brown Company car on Tangent 215s.  A much better match than the factory trucks.

“Dave, can you give me some hints on locating this?”

Search; “Car builders' cyclopedia of American practice”

There are six issues available; 1879 to 1925.

I'm logged into Hathi Trust with my login credentials, but I'm not finding it. I searched on "railway equipment register" and also on "ORER". I found the July 1904 edition, and the June 1917 edition, but no others.

Dave, can you give me some hints on locating this?

Thanks in advance...

The 1922 CBC is still purchase-only as far as I know.  But the 1919 is in Google Books, and the 1925 recently appeared at Hathi Trust.

The figure that Dennis referred to was part of the MCB/ARA brake gear standard and appears in both edition -- p. 1036 in the 1919 edition, p. 902 in the 1925.

It's also Plate 18 of the 1918 MCB Stds and RPs which can be found via Google.

The trucks look sort of "hokie" on my BLI HOKX Tank car. What were the trucks actually supplied on the prototype? Maybe what's on the car is the best we will get but the selection of new trucks from Tangent, Tahoe, and now Plate C I think this car deserves better. Possibly all the BLI offerings do.

Thanks, a quick search on this group disclosed the star was used by the NYC to signify the car was for grain loading.  I’ve got three feed mills and three elevators so it fits in very well.

Re: Black Car Cement

Jim Betz

... everybody has talked thru the texture of black car cement.  What I want to hear
about is how you represent a car with black car cement.
For example a car that has been recently mopped - or one that has been in
service for long enough to have started to change color (appearance)?

What product do you use (brand and color)?  How do you apply it?  Do you
do anything to -represent- the texture of car cement?

I think Tempura paint was in use on the Japanese National Railroad's cars for shrimp lading.

Ok...thanks, Dennis (for the '22 extract) and Dave (for the reference to the '19 CBC). Yeah, the downward bend/right angle handle seems to be more prominent than the "D"shape, at least in photos I've seen.
