Also, check seller's other listings. A goodly

Great. Will is a DL&W fan, so I am SURE they will
be on line as soon as the site is up.

I gotta tell you, I keep looking at O scale . . .
Only the fact that my club and its HO layout in
which I have invested 25 years of work is stopping
me . . . And you're not helping . . .

Accurail AAR 70-ton triple hopper with off-set sides

rwitt_2000 <rmwitt@...>

If I missed this thread just kill this off.

I found on the Accurail web site that they will be doing a version of
the AAR triple hopper with off-set sides with the following features:

* Fine sill steps molded from tough, durable Acetal resin, molded as
one piece with the diagonal end braces and bolster top plate so they
don't fall off the car
* Center sills set up for either standard mount couplers OR Accumate
PROTO:HO "scale size" couplers
* Brake levers and piping modeled between the major brake components
* Slope sheet braces properly modeled
* Fine section end ladder
* Properly modeled Wine door locks
* Hidden weights

From the description, the body casting should be finer than the one
from Stewart. Now if they do a correct 70-ton truck that will be a
real addition to the hobby.

Can you confirm from the photo in the Car Builder's Cyc whether the NYC
Lines herald has a black background? It doesn't look like it in the
photo I have, but my understanding is that it should have.
Yes, it does.

Re: Stock cars

James D Thompson <jaydeet@...>

Getting back to stock cars, can anybody recommend a kit to build a model
of either of the C&O stock cars?
Nope. The 40-ft cars had a body similar to the Pennsy K7, but they rode
on ARA 1932 underframes and had 4-4 Dreadnaught ends. The 36-ft cars had
the diagonals leaning the opposite direction from the Westerfield SP stock
cars which would otherwise be a good starting point.

Thanks Richard! I appreciated it. All I see below the side sill on my copy is darkness.

Can you confirm from the photo in the Car Builder's Cyc whether the NYC Lines herald has a black background? It doesn't look like it in the photo I have, but my understanding is that it should have.

Thanks again.

I carefully studied the same photo in the 1937 Car Builders' Cyc, where its
reproduction was somewhat less dark and muddy than in the Train Shed Cyc,
and I can just make out the outline of the brake cylinder/reservoir and
dirt collector. That confirms that these cars retained their original KC
air brakes when rebuilt.

Clark,
A Bob's Photo of CGW 93041, taken 2/11/52 at Tuskegee, Alabama, has the following stencils on the bottom door panel.

To the left of door handle: "LIFT HANDLE -->"
To the right of door handle: "TO OPEN OR CLOSE DOOR"

In addition, there are 6 lines of smaller stencils to the right of the route board on the 2nd panel from bottom. However, the data cannot be read on this photo.
