Not easy to model, because of those 7'3" doors. These are the cars
remembered by modelers for their bright orange paint schemes when they
were refurbished and renumbered in 1961. I think the RPI web site has
a builder photo, and Soph Marty has shared some nice color shots of
them on his mailing list.

Fallen Flags probably is the most reliable, but he seems to downgrade
photo quality to save storage space. You can store any pictures you
want in the steameraboxcars files area -- which I created specifically
to share photos. (It's a no-mail group.) It is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/steameraboxcars/

My favorite photo sharing site is http://www.pbase.com of which an example
is http://www.pbase.com/espeef5/misc_freight_cars But you have to pay for
your space there.

There also is http://community.webshots.com/ which is used by Jim Sands
and others to share photos.

passenger stuff, etc. etc.). So I picked up some 70 photos of freight cars
(and other things) all dating to 1959 most taken in West Oakland in
1959. They all aren't great photos, but the subjects make up for it.

I posted two today, the New Haven and the Southern cars. In addition,
there are cars from the Ann Arbor,SP, TNO, SP, WP, Milw (Rib side),N&W,
SP&S, Swift, MobilGas, A&EC,S&A, ATSF,BCK,CNW,CofG,Erie, Wilson,
D&H,GN,D&M, B&LE, D&SL, DT&I , M&W, L&N - a nice variety. I'll be posting
more if there is interest as I get time to scan them. Most are boxes, some
reefers, a couple tanks.
Bob,

The diversity of owners among boxcars in your 1959 Oakland pics should not be unusual on account of them being reloading on foreign roads for destinations on other foreign roads. Since both Swift & Wilson had meat distribution points in the Oakland area, there should be nothing unusual about their reefers being present there. What were the reporting marks of the MobilGas tank car? Mobil was in the process of increasing their fleet in 1959 while reducing the number of tanks that they were leasing from UTLX.

The guy had a light leak in the shutter, but most of the photos still

the caboose photos, let me know off list, and I'll send scans to you.
