Re: Proto 2000 Mather Stock Car kits
Larry Kline
I just uploaded a Mather Stock Car roster. Its based mostly on Richard Hendrickson's article in the 2-97 Rail Model Journal, with some additional information from an article by Gary Schlerf in the Summer 96 issue of the B&O Historical magazine. There are counts from the 7-45, 1-48 and 4-51 ORERs. The counts in the 1-48 column are from Richard's article. They are incomplete because I don't have that issue of the ORER.
I put this roster together while working on the forthcoming NMRA book of freight car photos based on the Charles collection. I think it took 3 or 4 hours to find the articles in my library (using the Model Train magazine index), read them, scan in Richard's roster, and look up the car counts in the ORERs. For those who don't have them, copies of articles are available from the NMRA library. Larry Kline Pittsburgh, PA

No, the P2K cars are stencilled correctly. Intermountain did white lettering on their early run UTLX tank cars. P2k has made some errors in paint and lettering but overall have done a fantastic job. I appreciate their efforts and have purchased many of their kits. Robert Cheeks Riverside CA
Didn't P2K screw up on a run of UTLX tank cars, and stencil them

Clark, a few years ago I called IM directly and talked to

Ron Angstead and got 20 or so sets of truck sprues for the SFRD reefer trucks for 75 cents each. Since they produce all of the parts in Colorado they often have stockpiles of sprues lying around.

I came home, looked up their web site, very few parts are listed, lots of those tempting RTR models. So, I emailed them, they responded saying they would be happy to sell the trucks to me. But, now I've cut out my local dealer and the discount he gives me. I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but this is a problem

They are identical to the pockets on the Proto 2000 flat cars.

Basically a tall U shape pocket. The Grandt line pockets are short, like the Tichy pockets.

As I understand it, if your dealer originally ordered direct from IM, he/she can continue to do so. I recently asked my local dealer to order some undec kits and parts and the dealer was able to obtain them with no problem. Jim Brewer Glenwood MD

but Richard's kit was an ARA flat which is what P2K now has. I suspect looking at one of those should provide you an idea of what they look like. Jerry Glow

"I'm still in search for the 8.000 gallon UTLX by Proto 2000. They have released it some years ago. Is there someone in this magnificent group who is willing to sell me some unbuild kits?" There's one on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6022432745 The seller will ship U.S. only, but I'm willing to act as a broker. Contact me off-list if you're interested. A search on "Proto 2000 tank car" turns up 11 other listings in other roadnames if you're willing to do some paint stripping. Ben Hom

But those who had direct dealer accounts before the agreement can still order everything direct from IM. That is part of the agreement. This was all contained in a newsletter to pre-existing dealers.
