I have an ORER for Oct 10th '79 and they have all the digits. I checked several railroads and all have 8's, 9's and numbers ending with with 0's. This is the only issue I have however.

NC&StL 16100-16599 were 36' SS cars similar to 15100-16099, but
taller (IH 8'6" vs 8'). There's a Winters photo of NC&StL 16453 in
Mainline Modeler 4/86, p 57. The article is on "Dominion" cars (same
thing as "Fowlers"); these are included as close-but-not-quites.

There's also a photo of NC&StL 16524 in Castner's NC&StL book, p 53.
The boxcar is coupled to a side-door caboose Bob Richardson for some
reason was interested in :-), but the picture shows both cars well.

NC&StL 3000-3249 were 36' DS cars similar to Southern's SU class. I
have a note that there's a photo of NC&StL 3192 in Don Ball's "Decade
of the Trains", showing Hutchins ends, but I don't have the book here
and lack a page reference.

SINCLAIR TANK

I would like to thank everyone that gave me information regarding the
Sinclair tank car. Today we took measurements based on Mr. Ferguson's decal
instructions and pictures that were sent to me by Mr. Cain and Mr.
Hendrickson. We sent it all off to the printers and will hopefully be able
to letter the car either late this week or early next week. As soon as it is
done I will post a couple of pictures of it to the STMFC's homepage. With
any luck it will pass your approval and be ready in time for our photo
freight on the 5th of Feb. Thanks again to everyone that helped me out.

Volume Four of Union Pacific Modeler (copyright 1998 by Metcalfe Publications) has an eight page article on Sinclair tank cars by Richard Hendrickson. No diagrams, but plenty of photographs.

Richard and Bill,

PRSL was the joint PRR-RDG railroad across Southern New Jersey including main lines from Camden to Cape May and Atlantic City plus branches to Ocean City, Wildwood and others. The railroad's name was changed in 1933 from the Atlantic City RR to Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines.

Fruit Growers Express service to Campbell's Soup Company in Camden, NJ

In May 1948 Fruit Growers Express brought into service two cars rebuilt
as insulted cars numbered 4200 & 4800 under the new reporting marks
FCEX. The cars were rebuilt by FGE's Alexandria, VA shops using one ex-
PRR R7 type reefer (#4200)and one truss rod car of unknown origins
(#4800). These two cars had stenciled in white within a black rectangle
the message "When Empty Return to PRSL Camden NJ." Camden was (is) home
to Campbell's Soup and I am positive that these cars were rebuilt to
serve them. These reporting marks disappear from the ORER in 1953

PRSL does not appear in any of the ORER's I have for the period 1948-
1953 and I am hoping someone on this list may know what they refer to.
Also is there anyone on the list familiar with the rail operations
serving Campbell's in Camden?

The Atlantic City Railroad was the Reading's portion. The PRR's part was the
West Jersey & Seashore Railroad. Competition was keen before the merger; at
one time both railroads assigned their fastest engines to these subsidiaries.

Regarding Camden, New Jersey, as a child I remember seeing many wooden FGE
reefers running on the PRSL, sometimes even in solid extra trains during the
harvest season.

In Camden, some of the side tracks to Campbell Soup (the odor from which
could be smelled for many blocks downwind from the plant) ran right across RCA's
parking lot and it was not unusual to find FGE reefers competing for space with
RCA employees' cars, or to find traffic held up while the plant was being
switched.
