I too have Pietrak's book and from what I read just recently it appears that there was a bidding war going on between several roads after WWI to make the BR&P part of a larger system. The B&O finally won, but I can imagine that while it was going on money was spent on only the most necessary items to avoid driving up the cost to whichever road finally acquired it.

I've been a BR&P fan since I discovered the Paul Pietrak history of

the railroad back in 1976. Photographic coverage of the line in the

decade before B&O control is very hard to uncover. From what I can

gather, very little new rolling stock or locos were acquired in this

timeframe. The Van Swearingen brothers owned it for a portion of this

time, but it seems there were no upgrades similar to what they did

with the NKP, Erie and C&O. Bob Witt recommended the YahooGroups as

one starting point. I'd recommend the Pietrak book as another.



The railroad was owned by the Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company for

many years. The R&P company archives ended up at the Indiana

University of Pennsylvania library in the late 1980s. I do not know

how much has been cataloged, but it may be worth a check there. Of

course, these details would pre-date the B&O ownership by a number of

years.

A continuing problem that increasingly plagues my modeling is

lighting- lighting that no matter how bright creates blinding
shadows
and stark contrasts that commonly stretches 5 minute tasks into
maddening and quite tedious marathons.

I ask the good kit builders on this list what ideal portable
shadowless lighting, or lighting arrangements that they are
finding
ideal for their kit building work stations? Keep in mind that
older
eyes require higher light levels, and they are unable to
accommodate
to light level changes very well.

H&BTMRR Hoppers

Hello folks,

Is there any chance anyone has any solid information on the Huntingdon
and Broad Top hoppers? I know they had some 8 panel channel sided
hoppers of 100,000lb capacity, with, I believe Andrews trucks. I have a
few photos of them taken after the railroad closed, but does anyone
know some dimensions of them, and their origin?

I haven't found any models that are a good representation of them, so I
think I'll have to resort to scratchbuilding.
