Brass PRR X23 - Suggestions in HO Scale?

parkcitybranch <parkcitybranch@...>

I would like to add a PRR X23 to my HO scale collection of brass
freight cars. I see there have been a few importers who have done
this car such as Overland and MTS. Any thoughts to which importer did
the better X23? I know there are resin versions out there but this is
for the brass collection. Thanks.

Are the Trix and Marklin B-50-24/27 the same? I bought two of the
Marklin models with the Be Specific with large UNION PACIFIC lettering
when they first came out and would certainly use the above parts and
decals to upgrade/backdate them. Problem is, I was unable to strip the
one Marklin I tried using any paint stripper on hand. (Brake fluid,
Chameleon, Scalecoat, all with ultrasonic, alcohol without ultrasonic.)
I finally tried a light, low-angle grit blast, but that removed the
rivets as well as the paint. So now I have one. Any ideas??

Frank,
I compiled a list showing cars that are or can be converted to Santa Fe prototypes, but know of no overall listing.
You have to go to each historical society and check each fo a listing.

Stand-ins for B&O B&O 3000-4499, N&W Class H-3 triple hoppers leased

Walt,

I don't know. I would suspect not, but I have never seen a set of drawings for the A-50-
16. What I have is the UP's proprietary welded underframe for the box cars. If someone
has drawings for the A-50-16, I'd love to see about making that underframe, too, if it's
different.

Ted, nice to see a PM car being done. IMO they had a very interesting

for one of these models....

There is an article in the March/April 2006 on "N Scale Magazine" by Dan Lewis that has a list of most N scale stock cars made.

Hope this helps.

Tim, all,

Ed Mines was nice enough to e-mail me privately to point out that I
was likely thinking of the ad in the November MR, and sure enough,
there it was right on my desk.

It appears they have created a new floor, underframe, details and
trucks for what was the LifeLike Canada P1K Dominion / Fowler boxcar,
then crafted new sides and doors to make the stockcar version. The pix
don't look bad, hope I can see them at Milwaukee Trainfest.

Thanks,

Nice. I'm especially excited about the CofG box cars!

I don't know if it's been noted on STMFC before, but two nights ago I decided

to put my first Trix B-50-24 together -- I popped out the Trix underframe/floor,

and simply replaced it with a trimmed Accurail 40 foot box car underframe. It

only took about 3 minutes with a file to narrow the Accurail underframe ever so

slightly, and the result is a perfect fit! I realize the Accurail underframe is not

really 100% correct for a pre-war box car, but for $1.50 and a few minutes of

work, I am happy with the results.

Elden,
Dick Kuelbs has his slide collection. As can be seen in selected
volumes of RP CYC and the MPHS Eagle publication, Dick has been kind to
share some of his slides with me to support various articles. Many
years ago he loaned his original slides to Al Chione, who in turn
offered duplicates in his slide sets. Virtually everything Al Chione
offered that was photographed during the 1960s at Dallas or Fort Worth
was from Dick.

I've heard that Paul Winters' collection was in the hands of Morning
Sun Books, but this is strictly through the grapevine.
