Eric, I can help on a few. I believe several numbers have been

GM&O 86592
No such number. Possibly 80592. If so, a 1958 cu. ft. covered hopper
built ACF 1950, lot 3460

MKT 91321
40' box series 91001-91500, ACF 6-50, lot 3459 (ACF 4-4 proprietary
ends)

MP 10329
No such number during this time period.

MP 25894
No such number during this time period.

T&P 103
No such number during this time period.

T&P 30348
Originally a single-sheathed auto car built Pressed Steel 10-29 from
series 61000-61524, rebuilt between 1942-1953 with steel sheathing and
single doors with 6' wide openings and renumbered 30000-30632.

I believe you have a typo / missing digit here.

SOO 17000 - 17998 were 34' 4" sixty ton cars built sometime around 1900. I doubt any were still in service in the fifties. However, this series was even numbers only, so that's not it.

There is no 174000 series, so it doesn't appear to be a missing last digit.

There is no 17400 series using the odd numbers; the Soo had a lot of odd only and even only number series, but if the used one, they didn't use the other in the same number series.

Soo did have a series of 50 ton steel gondolas numbered 7001 - 7499 odd numbers only. These were built in 1923 and must have originally been composit cars. 178 cars were still on the roster 1-1-62. Could the number have been 7473?

Andy's post beat me to the draw here, but I will add that ATSF 32527,
though it was indeed a Bx-13 class box car, wasn't single sheathed by
the late 1950s. In the early 1950s, all of the surviving Bx-13s were
rebuilt with AAR-design all steel bodies and diagonal panel roofs,
using their original ends, underframes and trucks. They were then
renumbered into the 32500-33484 series.

Will someone who has, or has access to, my handout on underbody
detail see if I included the foundation brake gear for a caboose
that has a hand brake on each end? If I didn't include that I
surely should have.
I don't see it covered in your handout...

Can someone tell me how to find my presentation on the internet?
It is on the Yahoo site under the Files section. Go to:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/STMFC/

and click on Files. If the Files link doesn't seem to get you anywhere,
you'll need to log in (usually, this is automatic)...there is a link on the
left side of the page to allow you to log in if nothing else works. Your
handout is about halfway down the page in the Files section.

There was a recent question on that topic and I was about to refer the gentleman to my handout - it is, I understand, available somewhere on the internet - but realized I don't remember whether the answer to his question was in the handout or not.

Can someone tell me how to find my presentation on the internet?

As most of you know my computer (used to be dog in the pre-computer days) ate my homework. At the NMRA convention in Toronto my computer somehow destroyed the presentation before our eyes as I was trying to put on the underbody detail clinic.

I have the intention, if not the git-up-and-go, to revise and reissue the handout. There are some recent new developments that ought to be included even though they are outside the time span of this group. I have found better ways to present some of the information.

Folks;

What railroads do you know of that had cars equipped with skids & covers for
coiled steel sheet shipment? I am most interested in cars equipped with
skids & covers, not purpose-built "coil cars".

I do know that NKP, B&O, Erie, P&WV, URR, DT&I, and PRR had their own
versions, and would be very interested in anyone knew of sources for photos
of these cars, also.

Do you know what dates these might have been put on a specific road? I
already know some of the history of their development; I am trying to flesh
out the magnitude of this service being offered by the RRs, and the details
on each car.

Thanks!
