short end of the stick decal-wise, even while Dan Kohlberg has produced a boatload of beautiful IC/ICG decals for the post-STMFC era. Even CDS, and Mark Vaughan, ignored the IC. I sent a copy of a beautiful photo of IC 20223 (stenciled for automobile engine loading and a "return empty to" stencil) to Intermountain in the hope they would produce a model of the IC "1940" AAR box cars but no luck there either. I agree with you about the shortcomings of Champ HB-150 but that's just about all there is... Tim O'Connor

See post #81519 on this list. That covers all of them built up to 1948 (there were some later-built cars I have no info on). A.T. Kott

How many 1927 blt 70-ton "fish-belly" gondola coal cars did the C&MI purchase for their mine to Illinois River barge loading facility runs? Series split and builders info . . . and how long did they use them?

While there are a box car and a gondola I'd like to see. Since they were apparently unique to the M&StL I figure there is no chance. On the other hand GATX and/or UTLX tank cars would be nice. These could, I believe, be used rather widely both in terms of time period and geographic location.

OK. Yes. I will take one. Now all we need to do is find someone else to pick up the other 14,999. Cheers, Bill Keene Irvine, CA On May 28, 2010, at 12:17 PM, richtownsend@... wrote: Hey! As far as I can recall, the only production model was from Con-Cor in N Scale years ago. I think the type was more common than the modeled 50 FT Double Door that was available (Walthers and MDC/Athearn in HO and Walthers in N). Of course, determining whose car to do (Burlington) is a problem (CB&Q) because most (Q) differ in truss pattern, roof, ends, door location and other details (Burlington Route). Charlie Vlk What other large quantity signature item freight cars could we ask for in built up form for the transition era? Maybe from a western road like the Santa Fe? Wish List.... May 2010 release
Charlie Vlk
Not to rub it in, but we have TWO nice models of Enterprise steel GS gons in N Scale.... the Micro-Trains and a slightly longer Trainworx version.
Doesn't begin to balance off all the stuff that Walthers keeps making in HO but not N, but oh well...... Charlie Vlk

I can't speak for "Eastern" roads, but can vouch for CN having quite a few Enterprise GS gons (a thousand or more?) in 36', 40', and 48' versions.

Yes, we need a General American 46' GS gondola, which is available in N-scale, but not HO. The car I'm thinking of was used in large numbers by the D&RGW and less so by the WP (but with different gate mechanisms, but I could live with a D&RGW car lettered WP). They were signature cars for both roads. AFAIK, all the D&RGW 40' 12-panel 10'2" IH boxcars had Duryea underframes, but it is true that they were built in several lots over the years and differed in doors, roofs and ends. These are neat cars, and visually taller than the 10' IH cars of the SP and GN. Kind regards, Garth Groff ealabhan0 wrote:

As a "signature" western freight car, how about a correct D&RGW 12-panel Pressed Steel Car Co. boxcar with straight side sill? Unfortunately, they weren't built in that large number, plus the Rio Grande bought several lots with different prewar and postwar ends, Superior and Youngstown doors, even some with Duryea UF, so it would take someone with far more knowledge of the Rio Grande than I to suggest the most-common car (or with the greatest number of paint schemes) to be a viable plastic model. (It still irks me to see Intermountain GN 12-panel boxcars with incorrect prewar Youngstown doors because they were too cheap to tool a IYSD for these postwar 10ft IH boxcars (not to mention the ends)). Another signature car is the GN's Pressed Steel Car Co. GS gondola(and possibly other roads like the D&RGW, IIRC?). There's also the SP G-50-9/-12 GS gons like the '50s Ulrich zamac model. I'm still hoping for a plastic 8,000 and/or 10,000 gal GATC-built tankcar, much more common a prototype than Athearn's '50s-crude model of the GATC 12,500 gal tankcar (which in itself could be a great SP/UP signature car if only Athearn were to upgrade and correct the model). I won't reopen the debate about a "typical" 1950s 40ft plugdoor reefer since I'm fine with Stan Rydarowicz's conversion kits for the varied BREX/WFEX/FHIX/WHIX/NX (and PFE, etc.) reefers...
