Gilbert used Green on their T&P gondolas for the S and HO lines going back
to the 1940s...and maybe even the O 3/16" line previous. I suppose the
others just copied them.

I've never seen or heard of any green cars. Even if possible, they'd stick out like a sore thumb as the white lettering on black car was the norm.

I have to agree, the C of G decals with those kits that were provided were pretty bad. Fortunately the CGRHS stepped up and did offer some correct sets.
