The wood sheathing was removed and replace with steel sides on the 45400-45999 series cars in
1935. The vertical posts and diagonal braces remained on the outside of the car sides. Cars

If you're modeling in HO, you may not be aware of the P2K end-door 50 double door boxes. I believe they came in road names: Q, GTW, ERIE, LV, SOU, UP. I've got a couple around here
