How were loads of autos consigned in the steam era? Were
they shipped direct to dealers (i.e. to the local freight
house or team track) or

I am not aware of a Dodge-DeSoto plant in Vernon. That may have been the
Chrysler plant that I referred to as being in Commerce. It may have actually
been in Vernon.

I recall watching automobiles being unloaded from a boxcar on to an adjacent
concrete platform in 1949 or 1950. The location was on a Pacific Electric
side track just north of the PE station and
