Re: Helium Tank Car Question
The 1943 cyc has a photo of USNX 1006, one of the GATX 28-tube cars, and also lists the OD as 18.5 in. I think I recall reading elsewhere that the wall thickness was 3/4". I can't find confirmation

Today, crude oil (and diesel) are classed by the AARas "combustible liquids", not "flamable". There is no AAR requirement to use buffer cars to separte combustible liquids from engines, occupied

Re: Helium Tank Car Question
The drawing on page 12 of Jay Miller's excellent Helium car clinic handout;
"A Portfolio of Helium Tank Cars 1926 - 1962"
seems to show a tube diameter of 18.5in for USNX 1054.
I'm not sure if it is

I think you have to remember that there are differing grades of crude oil. The Canadian oil train disaster happened in part because the shipper didn't let the railroads know that the North Dakota

Helium Tank Car Question
A while back there was some discussion about the USNX/ATMX 30 tube helium tank cars built by GATC and ACF.
Does anyone know what the diameter of the tanks were on these cars, please?
Cheers
Dave

Re: ATSF train slogan
According to the Santa Fe Box Car book:
200 cars in BX28 class, converted 1937. Originally painted in the pre-map lettering scheme - no map, no slogan. The last BX-28 was retired around 1971.

Re: ATSF train slogan
Would someone know which train slogan would be most appropriate for the Shake n Take ATSF Bx28 circa 1940-47. Finally got mine built and would like to know which decals are correct. Assume it could

Bill. I'm at work and on my phone but Ed Hawkins nice freight car lists on the website did indicate door types. I recall 1937 AAR, modified 1937 AAR, postwar 10 6 cars etc. these are the same tables
