Re: Minuteman Scale Models has purchased the Scalecoat paint line from Weaver Models
Tim,
Thank you for that reminder. It's been two or three years since my last visit to DPH, and I had forgotten that they stock Scalecoat. I, too, linger long whenever I visit the place.

AHM double-door double-sheathed boxcar prototype?
Life has many mysteries, like how, many years ago, AHM could tool up a rather accurate plug-door PS-1 (certainly by the standards of the day it was nice), then turn around and tool up a strange 40'

Tom, you can buy Scalecoat directly from Des Plaines Hobbies, which also
stocks many custom Scalecoat colors, not just the Weaver colors. Just go
to the web site, add the colors to your shopping cart,

When did PRR start painting covered hoppers in gray rather than FCC? If class matters the car of interest is an H30.
TIA

Thank you Garth
They do have the diagonal panel roofs, but the sides are welded. I might consider sanding them off and adding archer rivets to do a RDG car.
Any other options?

Check the ends--
This car, called the ACF series by Red Caboose, has R+3/4 (current best ID'ing) Late Improved Dreadnaught ends, the so-called "Banana Taper". This rules out any pre-1955 built

Re: Possible modeling options?
Mark,
If the roof is diagonal panel and the sides are riveted, you could do RDG 10700-10749 built 10/48. I'm sure there must have been others, but I don't have information on them.

Possible modeling options?
Digging through my stash I found a box of Red Caboose parts in plastic bags labeled as ACF 10' 6" IH 4-3-1 ends. These house cars have 10 panel sides and 8' door openings. Any thoughts on prototypes

One correction on Scalecoat/Minuteman announcement
Among the paints Shawn plans to produce is ACL Purple.
In my previous email I wrote SCL purple. That was my error, not Shawn's.
