The Shadow Keystone was first applied to the X48 (PS-1) in February 1954 when constructed. Beginning mid year 1954 it was being applied to all newly constructed cars and all repaints. The P2 8-54

No. Short water hauls would have been by barge, but those were gas/oil barges, not car floats. Small scale movement of refined petroleum products in tank cars on car floats did occur in areas

Opps forgot to mention, the CB&Q used the D to remind car handlers to be sure and unload the upper deck. The company did not want to buy a load of hogs or sheep because someone forgot.

Tod, the D was the CB&Qs way of designating a double deck car. You can see the ends of the boards of the second deck between the slates, in line with the CB&Q lettering.

The Georgia & Florida had one sawtooth boxcar at least, painted bright green of all things, though I think it's likely this was a wrecker car they put back into traffic.
