Trees were also delivered in box cars. When we lived in the Bronxwe’d go to the LCL track at the NH Van Nest shops to pick out a tree. Guyswould buy carloads and sell out of them. The

I have two photos of Christmas Trees on flat cars. One taken in Ontario in 1926 shows a flat car #651498 (can’t make out a name) being piled high with Christmas Trees. The other is of a DM&? flatcar

I remember switch cars of Christmas trees in the late 1970's. They were using old 50' DD boxes from our time period.

Am I the only one here that remembers Christmas trees being shipped by rail into northeast cities?
They we tied in bundles of two or three spruce trees and loaded on flat cars/ there were side stakes

Railroad Prototype Cyclopedia, Volume 17,notes the CNJ cars were rebuilt with Hutchins roofs and 221 cars were inservice in July 1951. The volume contains two images of the CNJ USRA SS cars.
