Tim,
I don't believe this is a steel-sheathed car. I think the darkness of the image conceals the joints, which aren't very prominent on a well-maintained SS car anyway. There is a fairly obvious

Hi Kevin,
I have an image of the car NYC 499000 - as called out in the title line of your email - the image is dated 1924.
While it is a heavy duty flat car, it is NOT a depressed center car.

Re: Stars On Boxcar Door?
On many roads a star on the door or near the number on a baggage or express car would signify that the car was equipped for a messenger, and that someone may be on board. We don't know the story

Re: Stars On Boxcar Door?
The car appears to have steel side sheathing. The Southern Pacific
had single sheathed auto box cars built with steel sheathing, suchas
the 50 foot A-50-10. But the posts and diagonals are closer

Just curious, it is known for sure there is something wrong with the CV U/F arrangement of its various members? Dennis has noted that U/F cross members did not always line up with superstructure

Re: Clark Side Dump Car
Scott...
I have an old metal kit for a side dump. I'll dig it out and post the info.
Scott Chatfield
That sounds like the Model Engineering Works kit.
