The Avenarius ( no "o") company was german but they had a plant in Milwaukee. Best suggestion is a sort of chestnut colour when new. Tamiya Red Brown XF64 is, I think, intended for WW2 panzers

It looks to me like the cars are being papered for clean lading. This was a common practice on the Reading, not for grain, but for cocoa beans and bagged sugar, prior to the switch to covered hoppers

Thanks Ben! One can only hope the fidelity to the prototype is better than some of their offerings. The drawing suggest that they are going to use the correct roof and doors, if nothing else.
