Hi Elden,
Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem, PA shipped large steel plates in the 1960s-70s that had to be loaded diagonally on edge in gondolas to fit in the clearance diagram. I have some slides

Silk Car on PRR 1943
Gang;
One of the interesting special loads notes in the ORER has to do with the PRR's "silk cars" X31A, modified 1943 for this service. Got to thinking this has to be for the Airborne's parachute

Bill;
It's interesting you brought that up. Several of the RRs that kept the pivoting brake had slightly different versions, but it seems no one quite knows all the details on this. Have you ever

Group,
The gondola in question is indeed a post USRA, a clone that was built by Bethlehem in 1925, class GMl. This was in a batch from 21500-21599, costing new $2282.45. This had a lengthy

Re: Fabulous shot of B end of USRA gon
That is a nice shot but the car number does not line up with the USRA assignments. The P&R 70-ton USRA mill gondolas were numbered 6950-7449. Were these renumbered? Or is RDG 21954 seen in the Hagley

Diagonal Plate Loading and Freight Car Shipment
Gang;
Does anyone know of photos, write-ups, and other sources for diagonal loading of steel plates, from U.S. Steel mills, and the freight cars that served this?
I know a decent amount on the PRR

Hi Ed, thanks for your sharp vision. I answered the group before I read your reply, I'm sorry.
Indeed the UP cars are GATC and have a different locking bar design only the Kato's posess. Most simple

Re: Flat Wire
McMaster Carr offers flat wire in stainless steel. Says it is soft
enough to bend and stay bent. Sizes 0.010 X 0.020 and 0.010 X 0.030
and larger sizes. This is not straight, it comes in 1/4 lb.

Russ Simpson used to sell packages of brass strip .006'' x 3 scale inches, .006'' x 2 scale inches, and .010'' x 3 scale inches. There was a rumor that it was back in production, But I just Googled
