Re: What is this car?
The waycar is a dead giveaway that this is a Santa Fe train.
Based on the filename, the locomotive is probably 1829, an 1800 class 2-6-2.
The gondola is a Caswell or a Caswell look-alike.

I'm going to say covered gondola. I've seen similar cars on the C&S narrow gauge in Colorado, used for carrying high-grade ore.

Re: Sand Loads in HO?
I have thought about this more in terms of scenery, but the same principles apply to loads.
If you are a soil scientist, sand particles range in diameter from 0.05 to 2.0 mm. A good starting point

That's close enough for me. There's a big difference between a few drops added to a bottle full and a few drops added to half a paint cup full.

Re: automobile cars
That was really my point Armand - the notion that the term"automobile car"
is anything more than a "nickname" for certain types ofcars.
In the 1950 ORER for example, you will see double door ATSF box

Jim,
I use a paint cup with the airbrush. Iadd the base color paint up to the halfway mark then add the drops ofadditional color. I have no idea what the ratio would be. I just wing it eachtime.
