The number, 54275, fits an Sk-G, a 36' truss rod car built by ACF in 1902. ATSF had 1500 of them. Originally they had wooden sills but were rebuilt before 1910 with steel channel draft sills.

Very off topic - Trains Magazine DVD Collection
Hope someone can help out. I have Kalmbach's Trains DVD with the issues from the beginning to 2010. Problem is, I can only get it to install on my C:\ drive. That was ok until I got a new laptop

Let me add that for most of their lives the single-sheathed boxcars PROBABLY had white lettering, not silver. Part of the confusion is that the WP specified "aluminum"

Yes, I agree Dennis, the temperature of the oil has a big effect on the amount of drag a bearing has. I have watched V8 engines on a dyno pick up 20-30 hp from the oil temperature going from 150 degs

The roller bearings you are referring to are very different from the modern tapered roller bearings in freight cars. Each RR roller bearing is often carrying a load of over 30,000 pounds!
