Re: Gulf tank cars
Tim:
Look again. It's 12544 gallons, exactly matching the value for that car in the 1936 tariff book (which is where the dome volume came from).
I think the car on the right is 50324, which was 12547

Dave
I agree, it's a wonderful photo. Thanks Claus!
If you zoom in on the photo the last four digits of gallonage are clear -1254.
Therefore I think it's reasonable to surmise these are 11254gallon

because of the wheel base. So for 70 ton cars that need these twotrucks... and

Claus:
That is a great image -- nice catch!
Those are both 12.5 kgal cars, something that was not that common in 1920s. If the domes look a bit large, they are -- 535 gallons!
Wonderful Gulf paint

Personally I think the wheel base of the Accurail truck is too long for most boxcars, same for their Andrews truck.

Thanks to Ben and Robert for the help. I think I've got a pair of the Tahoe trucks in parts box, if not I know where to get them.

The Accurail truck isn't a bad choice, as it represents the ARA cast steel trucks these cars were equipped with. However, I believe the Tahoe "Buckeye" ARA trucks have better detail, including brake

Re: Multiple Ice Hatches?
So much and yet so little.
Roof does not appeared to be as pitched as other cars.
A plank between hatches note shadow line.
Car #1810 - Partial?
On the closer car, underside detail on hatch.

Brent,
Actually there is something that can be done with the Athearn car. It is a fair representation of CGTX 55201-55399 used to carry chlorine, as shown in the 1953 CAR

Virginia Foundry & Model Works did this car a few years ago in resin.
Now out of production.
Maybe ask on the Earlyrail group if someone wants to part with one.
