Re: GRAB IRONS
The initial .008 grabs from BLMA were stainless steel. Later I believe they used phosper bronze..The ones that I just received from Atlas seem to be brass. I have not tested them.

As always, Ian Cranstone's tabulation of reporting marks is a very good place to start (I should of looked there first):

Re: Virginia Chemical Tank Cars
Virginia Smelting Company is listed on page 687of the July 1945 ORER.
The reporting marks are V.S.X.
The car list is similar to that posted by Dave--some cars added, some cars removed--a total of 33

Virginia Chemical Tank Cars
I am looking for information on Virginia Chemical Tank cars as offered by Broadway Limited (Item # 6125). These cars have built dates of 1941 and 1946 but do not appear in my 1953, 1954 or 1955 ORER.

Re: GRAB IRONS
I believe Bill was asking specifically for scale (0.008") grabs, for which BLMA/Atlas and Tangent fill the bill. Tichy does not.
I have bent some SS grabs out of guitar strings, but I don't think

Re: GRAB IRONS
Tichy also offers grab irons and are very affordable. Both Tangent and Tichy use Phosphor Bronze wire. Does anyone use a material that is stronger such as stainless steel?

Re: reefer MDT 13755 on display at the Fulton County Museum
Don
I thought it might be a LOCK of some kind - that car was STATIONARY at that
location for a very long time. Photos taken at least two years apart show it

Re: reefer MDT 13755 on display at the Fulton County Museum
Hi Tim,
Your comment brings the question of what good woud such an appliance be if the car
were NOT in revenue service? Also, your photo of 11945 seems to show a galvanized roof
that was not

Re: GRAB IRONS
Yes, it probably should have been a freight car, but that certainly is a fine looking locomotive. I especially like the weathering.
