Re: A better pin vise
I have some of this type as well. I don’t like them as they don’t tighten well.
Thanks!

Re: A better pin vise [Starrett]
Ah, yes - those are the ones chuckable in something larger, like a sensitive press... I had one in my hands once, in a friend's shop[0], while I was working on the chassis of a 3.5" gauge TICH.

Buster Keaton again

I find the car in the immediate foreground very interesting. Longitudinal hatches. Spitballing here, but

Re: A better pin vise
I havr several of these. I'm not sure if it is the same manufacturer. I don't use them as I seem to have a degree of difficulty tightening down on the drill. Maybe it's because as my wife says

Re: A better pin vise [Starrett]
Here is the Starrett Catalog page... with all their pin vise sizes and model numbers.
One document online shows the 166A design dates from at least 1938... No wonder we find them in our fathers' /

Re: A better pin vise
I don’t think $21.00 or so is outrageous for a quality tool you’ll use for many years.
Thanks!

Re: Kadee C&O PS-1 boxcar 1952 For Progress livery
Ed Hawkins has assured me the factory paint was black ends & roof -- and here is a 1953 shot that shows
a C&O PS-1 with black ends and black roof! So I guess I am convinced now.

It would be helpful if you explained which vise is “that same.”

Re: Photo: Rock Island Boxcar With A Load Of Radios
In 1930 radio was just getting popular, and the sets from Majestic were mostly the large "high-boy" (consoles), and even the table tops were large and shipped in wood crates, but still, that is a lot

Re: Kadee C&O PS-1 boxcar 1952 For Progress livery
Regarding “smoke”
I've attached 18917 but it's probably a repaint - the "smoke" on the repaints was simplified compared
to the original design which had "wavy" smoke.
Right, C&O

Re: [Non-DoD Source] Re: [RealSTMFC] Photos: 235, 000 Pound Casting, Very Short Flat Cars
Claus;
We were holding a side discussion on this, and absolutely believe trucks were taken as war booty for use in the U.S. post-WW1.
Cheap way of obtaining HD trucks!

You did notice that the MODEL and the PROTOTYPE have the same number right - 18499?
You have a picture of 18712?
I've attached 18917 but
