I purchased this kit in October of 1960 and it carries the road name and number Pere Marquette 89920. The outside bracing is, indeed, pot metal. I have just pulled it out of service as I am thinning

Actually I have some IM 1927 FGEX cars to disassemble then re build on the PRR R7 frame and one on the Tichy frame as FGEX rebuilt many of their cars.
I can no longer find the IM FGEX kits so I bought

I still run an Ulrich box car. I bought it from Walther's as I recall, in the 1960's. But as I recall the outside Z bracing was pot metal though and not brass. It is one of my favorite models.
