Cars like these were still being used after the PC merger. Many transit cars went East through Rose Lake yard in E St Louis coupled to them with the empty cars going back to the TRRA after delivery

According to the PRRT&HS Gondolas book, those are for mating to subway cars so the cars could be moved in regular trains. They were stenciled "RETURN TO ST. LOUIS CAR CO. IN EAST ST. LOUIS."

I have not tried them, but the only DA part that I really need on a regular basis other than eye bolts (which are made by quite a few manufacturers) is the coupler cut lever. Tangent's are good, but
