Re: PFE R-40-23 sidesill reinforcements

It was not a universal change, but here is the best example I have seen. Also, if it was
done in the 1950's, I have not seen any photos that show it.

Re: [Non-DoD Source] Re: [RealSTMFC] Walthers Proto PRR X29b
Tim;
I heard that for a number of years, but never saw any evidence it happened. Given the undercuts on the side sill/u/f, I have doubts it was ever done, but I guess we will see.

Could these be ex-C&BT tooling ?? Didn't Dick Schweiger cut molds for one of the PRR X29 rebuilds ?
IMO $500+ has just got to be aimed at wealthy train set buyers. I

Re: Great Northern boxcar background?
Thanks Tim!
Funaro makes an PRR X37B so will probably go that route since Sunshines are getting harder to find. Unfortunately the GN car is way past my modeling time. Still has some neat weathering

Thanks, Al. I have RP CYC 21, so that helps. The bleed rods are shown in RP CYC 29 for the 24000 series, so I’ll go with that.

In RP CYC 21, p 60, there's a B-end photo of RI 23844. It's a little dark underneath, but it may help.

Re: Southern Boxcar 3218
I believe Southern converted some of the double sheathed, double door boxcars (like the Sunshine model) early in WWII. I have never seen a picture and I can't explain the apparent vent.

Thanks! I had thought they might be resin (like Roger Chrysler's Canadian "Cockshutt" tractors)
or even 3D printed.

Brian,
The 2005 Sunshine mini-kit was for different series of MoPac 40’ box cars built in 1942 in which the side sill door reinforcement extended from bolster to bolster, unlike the AAR model
