Not a Mather car, though Cudahy did use Mather reefers. All photos I have of Cudahy Mather reefers have the Mather name visible somewhere. And all have six hinges, not four.

Attached is a slightly different photo of CRLX 5557. My file name indicates it is a Mather car. Note the clear stencil near the right side ladder indicating Return to E. Chicago, Ind.

Thanks for all the replies; given the particular use of the cars to the Eugene agent I’ll leave it off.

The photos that were attached are actually A-50-6's converted to hogfuel cars. They are the 50' variety. I know the A-50-4's were also so converted. This would make a fairly simple kitbash of a Funaro

Doug,
You may well have identified the use of the Eugene "return to" placard. The placard makes perfect sense for the photo (likely via Tim O'Connor), but will not do much good for Charlie

I checked Dick Harley’s sp book and didn’t see any examples for that time being.

Could be but it’s angled and placards were rectangular. Before computer routing many ‘agent assigned’ cars were stenciled with specific empty return information.

If it’s on a white background, maybe it’s a placard.

Where does the ‘Empty Return’ Stencils go on n an SP SS boxcar?
I’m decaling the Speedwitch SP A-50-4 and plan to use it going to a lumber yard on the layout. The decals have a white backed decals for returning the empty car to Eugene. I’ve looked through
