Marc, articles were in RMC sometime in the mid 1980s, maybe 1986. Sorry don't have the issues at hand.

Further to my earlier email, the "Smooth Canadian" slabside article was in the August 1986 RMC and includes a list of commodity loads for these cars.

The as delivered number series were in the 135000 to 135787 series until a fleetwide renumbered program in the late 1960s-early 1970s.
www.nakina.net has tons of information on the Canadian railway

The August 1986 issue of RMC contains an excellent article by Ken Goslett on the Canadian slab side covered hoppers. From 1948 to 1962 CPR purchased 1,471 cars from two builders. From 1951 to 1962 CNR

The only significant visual difference is in the side sills at the car ends. On the DL&W hopper they are straight; on the IC (RCW) hopper they angle up.

Two things hit me "right out of the box": 1) "Hands on" fabrication....no robots!....a lot of fascinating machinery with all that mechanical

Thanks for the responses and the graphic material. The main difference that I can see is that the Lackawanna hoppers were 12 inches longer on the inside and the side sills were thicker too. Otherwise

6,000 Gal. Tank Car Circa 1906
I don't think ROX 670 is a UTL car; I believe it's a German-American underframe with a newer replacement tank.

Re: CN Slabside Hopper
Grain was an at least occasional shipment in the slabside cars. While I can't say for sure about the 1950s era they were used in the 1970s and 1980s based on what I saw being loaded at the elevators

When we discussed this several years ago, I captured the attached photos from man of you. I have the Shapeways parts but got busy building the layout and have not gotten to the construction stage.
