I agree with Claus that the piles in the foreground are likely coke. I've seen coke from West Virginia coking operations, and the color is a gray that is lighter than bituminous coal from which it is

I've heard SP&S vets talk about them. I don't recall a description, and it's hard to believe they used something as fancy as this one.

Tim my understanding from the BRHS group is that these were filled with water and hung from hooks just above the truck with a hotbox. A hose was run to the journal box/bearing that was overheating,

That industry in the background is interesting, also. Coal gasification plant? The coal looks lighter than bituminous, but anthracite doesn't have much gas content... Guess it could be a power plant
