Also note that asphalt shingles have been in use since 1903 and common since 1911, so they're definitely not "modern" (a tip for you 1910s and 1920s modelers).

Note that 3-tab asphalt shingles weren’t standardized until the 1950s. At that time, they were definitely an “upgrade” that one would expect on the better homes in town…

I use newsprint for rolled roofing. I spray a sheet using a rattle can. Green, primer red, and black are rolled roofing colors I've seen the

Steve is correct. these are company houses and usually would use the rolled roofing. I was attempting just to go one step better with the 3 tab black asphalt shingles.

I've been using BEST shingles (Bollinger Edgely Scale Trains), I picked them up at the Amherst Train Show a few years ago, They are self sticking and come off their carrier sheet in a row, look great

Campbell still lists their shingles. They come in a 100’ roll, brown paper random width with dry adhesive back. Lick ‘em and stick ‘em.
I use the a lot. They make a fairly nice simulated
