Boxcar Roof Detail – Santa Fe Boxcar 24930 (1917)
It's not. The cable is an overhead line of some sort (you can see its shadow on the left side of the car roof), and the line running parallel to the brake staff is the air line for the retainer valve

Re: Boxcar Roof Detail – Santa Fe Boxcar 24930 (1917)
Why is there a rope or cable coming from right, wrapping round the brakestaff and then going down the end of the car parallel with the brake shaft?

Attached is a photo of L&N stock car #19065, from series 19000-19099 built by American Car & Foundry in 1921. The L&N diagram sheet for those cars also includes 19100-19114 (ex-LH&StL 1071-1085),

Thanks guys, and Steve, those photos are helpful. It looks like I purchased a foobie. I wonder if it can be repurposed as it seems different from the HO stock cars I've seen.

New car Sunday
Here are some photos I took this morning after finishing three more models. There's a photo of the weathering supplies used which has a Branchline reefer in it I slapped together yesterday.
