Re: MOW cars, was Accurail MKT 36’ boxcar
Agree with Resin. The NKPHTS had rider cars cast in resin. We sold at least 75. Maybe 100?
Several years have passed I can’t recall if I did 75 or 100 overall.

Seasonality is somewhat of a myth, at least on the large stock yard side of the industry. See page 37 of the attached Chicago Union Stockyard numbers; 1900-1921 show largely the same thing. True,

Ted,
I don't know if it suggests that, but cattle shipments did tend to be seasonal. My understanding is that, in the spring, cattle were often shipped from winter grazing areas to summer pastures at

That’s looking great, Charlie! Sharp paint and lettering.
I bought a couple of those Branchline AC&F reefer kits last summer during a hobby shop stop on the way to the St Louis RPM. When I tire

Tom did a nice job on his ART and Mopac cars which at the time when he was in business is about all I’d bought.
The Northwestern lettering is almost spot on although his capacity load limit and

Beautiful work - such handsome cars! Tom Stolte's decals (Oddballs) are not always as accurate as these so
he must have really liked these cars. :-)

Re: Stain for wooden barrels
Here are some photos of wood barrels used as containers for food and drink.
The barrels are not stained or painted, but note the various staves have variation in color, so a simple stain job will not

Re: Stain for wooden barrels
Campbell Scale Models still makes HO scale real wood barrels. with raised segments for barrel hoops (paint the hoops, leave staves and tops & bottoms unpainted).
Look for item #250

For whatever reason this early group of ART reefer were built with the shorter doors they weren’t for only meat service.

Re: Photo: ART Reefer 13660 (Undated)
When I hear "shorter door" for a reefer, I immediately think "internal overhead brine tank". I think
that ART did have some of those, which I think were used for frozen foods.

Re: Stain for wooden barrels
Kevin, I agree barrels were not stained, but they didn't remain their original wood color, they weathered to a warm brown. Charlie Duckworth's suggestion is really good. Jerry Michels

Branchline Northwestern G/Y reefer finished
Here’s some old school modeling; the Branchline wood reefer kit build almost OOB. I did substitute wire handgrabs for the sides and on the roof otherwise used all the parts that came with the kit.

Re: Photo: ART Reefer 13660 (Undated)
I wonder if this reefer was meant for another commodity like meat. It has a shorter door and overall looks quite different from the "signature" ART wood reefer.
