Adding to Bruce's observations, I discovered a tank car detention report for Port Chicago from November 1944 in the San Bruno branch of the National Archives and wrote a blog post about it in 2012.

The artwork you sent shows two PC&F cars. Easily recognized by the roof overhang on the ends!

Clarence,
I would disagree with you on this. Since "modern day" (for this list is 1959), we'll only talk about this and backwards. Tanks cars in petroleum service ranged from 6,000 to 12,000 gallons,

General Petroleum Tank Cars
Besides building new freight cars Pacific Car & Foundry also rebuilt numerous cars. In 1927 they cleaned and painted 5 tank cars for General Petroleum in Seattle. Here are photos of GPCX 203 and 259.

Thanks for posting these photos, Rich. I've always been a fan of these cars. Do you/does anyone know if they last into the 50s in this configuration?

I just looked again, and did find a Red Caboose 8700 series kit unbuilt. Maybe this says something about having too many unbuilt kits.
Attached are photos of the Branchline doors with the Red

Tim and Andy,
This has been an interesting discussion. Thanks for reminding me about the RC-8700 series kits. I thought I had a good use for some old Front Range cars I had on the shelf, but

I too was confused about exactly what they are doing (although I think I understood back in January when I placed my order). It appears that they are indeed doing both Magor and PC&F versions
