Gould 4 course tank car tooling
No, the use of a 4 course tank body allowed the use of flat mold construction where the conical rivets won't be trapped coming out of the mold. Years later Intermountain was able to mold a 3 course

You are suggesting that he chose a tank with longitudinal lines to help disguise the mold split lines?
Certainly would make things easier for the mold designer and the tool maker and tool

I have built the rebuild, the tank, the crane, the R40-4, and the boom car. Pretty nice kits from a modeler (assembly only) point of view. Did manage to screw up keeping the boom movable….
