Re: pre PS1 box cars
Thanks Ben. They bought 1000 40 ton boxcars from Pullman Standard in 1940, 20000-20999. The drawing in the diagram book doesn't show as many panels as the FandC model. Here's a photo, 10

Re: Photos of CMO AAR cars
Thank you for the photos. Good info.
A question from this west coast, pre-'51 modeler: when did the C&NW start using the large lettering?
Feedback appreciated!

Re: ATSF flat class
That's cool. My Dad photographed this one (no idea of the class designation)
ATSF 190198 in 1978 in Barstow. It has 13 stake pockets !

There is a layout in California that is done in black & white. It was on tour for the 2019 NMRA convention in Sacramento. It was a layout based on the Hetch Hetchy railroad.

Look at where the light is coming from - upper left - you can tell by the shadows of the ladder rungs. That means the ribs on the end are convex toward the coupler (protruding out of the car), since

Hi Tony;
If you are modeling the as-built CMO 20050-21398 (even numbers) series cars with the "Route of the 400" slogan, my notes indicate that the ends were same freight car red/brown as the sides

I also have been wanting to model one of the CMO cars in the 20000-22414 series. I think the challenge in HO is the Superior door with the wide space at the top. I have not found a good model for this
