I've successfully solved this problem on some reefer kits by painting the
interior black. But that assumes you're building a kit or, in the case of
a RTR model, that you can take it apart

I use a half sheet of printer paper. I draw around the open top and cut the
rectangle out about 1/4" larger all around than the car top. Using masking
tape, I cover the open rectangle in

What I find weird is we (well I) so much need a good Dalman 2 level
(which had a lot of usage besides Santa Fe) and we get two manufactures
spending money on an Allied.

That's a good average for 1923. Composite cars ran around $1800-2300,
steel boxcars and 70-ton hoppers around $2200-2500, and Virginian's
battleship gons check in at $5000 a piece.
