Re: Ulrich GS Gondolas Update
Another source for the earlier Enterprise gons is Challenger.
But they easily cost 3-4x as much as the new Ulrich cars were
supposed to cost. But, quite nice detailing, especially the
underframes.

Gene,
Actually I think Frank Hodina & Martin Lofton have taken a lot of

Yes, as there is another builders photo of the same car where the other end
is close to the camera and one can make out that the car is indeed wood.
Naturally I didn't want to post the url for that

In the mid-60s I saw an NP single-sheathed box car that must have been
recently shopped. The paint was glossy and one had to look carefully to
tell the siding was wood boards. I hope this isn't too

Dean Payne asked:
Is this model any different from the Red Caboose GS gondola?
Yes. The Ulrich car represents an Enterprise design built by General
American Car Co. for the SP as Classes G-50-9

It must have some function in the delayed uncoupling process. Kadee
couplers are pretty interesting things when you start looking more closely
at them - like the asymetrical keystone shape of the #5
